Thomas was the son of Josiah May and Sarah Ann "Sallie" Branham. He married Ella Wainscott on 26 December 1876 in Owen Co, KY and they had a daughter who was a year old in the 1880 Census. By 1900 Ella had passed away.

Raiborn; thence S. 82 1/4 W. 68-1/5 ps. to astone corner; thence S. 23 1/2 W.28 ps. to a Buckeye tree; thence 81 E.35 ps. to aLynn tree; thence S.70 E.17-3/10 ps. to a stone corner to Z. Raiborn; 23 1/4 E.51-7/25 ps. to the beginning, containing 14 1/2 51-7/25 ps. with D. Raiborn's line to astone in R.L.
