Based upon letters found inKnoxville, I believe he enlisted again. Whatever ill health he had at age 29, he lived another 42 years.

He fought in the battles of Stones River, Chickamauga, Blountville, Blue Springs, Bean's Station, Blains' Crossroads, New Hope Church, Atlanta, Ezra Church, GA, Utoy Creek, GA, Dalton, GA, Missionary Ridge, Knoxville, and Wheeler's Cavalry raids of 1863 and 1864.
