Nebraska Governor. Graduating from Ohio State University, he moved to Nebraska in 1888, studied law, was admitted in 1890, plus worked as a high school principal and livestock rancher. Entering politics in 1906, he was elected to the Nebraska State Senate. In 1910, he was elected as a Republican the 16th Governor of Nebraska, serving until 1913. During his term a comprehensive road program was initiated, a sanitary health bill was authorized, a co-operative association act was sanctioned and a state board of control for state institutions was established. After leaving office, he returned to his legal career and served as an associate justice of the Nebraska State Supreme Court from 1918, until death at age 60.
