NEWBERG - Betty J. Maxwell, 86, of Newberg died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, in Newberg. She was born June 13, 1923, in Pasadena, Calif., to Omer and Anna Vrooman. She married Darrell C. Maxwell in 1944 in Denver, Colo.
She attended college, and worked for a time in banking. She spent most of her life raising children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a Umatilla County-area resident for 40 years.
Survivors include her husband, Darrell C. Maxwell of Tacoma, Wash.; sons Darrell L. Maxwell of Portland, Richard M. Maxwell of Eugene and Kevin S. Maxwell of Tacoma; and daughter Karen I. Johnson of Tacoma.
