Civil War Union Army Officer, US Congressman. During the Civil War he served as Colonel and commander of the 52nd Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He was elected to represent New York's 30th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1883 to 1885, and from 1891 to 1893.
