Kingsley News Times, 22 February 1962, page 1: Ethel Vannorsdel was born on January 16, 1880, at Melbourne, Iowa. She came to Woodbury County at the age of two with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I.H. Vannorsdel, and spent the remainder of her life in this area. She was the eldest of eight children. Ethel was graduated from Kingsley high school in 1899. As a young woman she joined the Church of the Brethren. She was a faithful witness and a loyal worker in the church. On January 24, 1906, Ethel was united in marriage to Frank Bainbridge. After their marriage the couple farmed near Kingsley until retiring twelve years ago. It was their privilege to celebrate the golden wedding anniversary in 1956. Mrs. Bainbridge was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in 1957. Her parents and two brothers also preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Melvin of Kingsley and Lee, of Waterloo, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Day, Washington, D.C. and Pauline, at home. Three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Karlson, of Kingsley, and Mrs. D.W. Forbes, of Sioux City; three brothers, Roy of Kingsley, Harry of Manchester, Washington and Dewey, of Cherokee, Iowa. A host of neighbors and friends also mourn her passing.
