U.S. Congressman. He became a clerk in the Traders’ National Bank, in 1863, employed as cashier, (1868-94), was president (1907-17) and was chairman of the board, (1917-23). In addition he was vice president of the New York State League of Republican Clubs, president of the Monroe County League, president of the Rochester Chamber of Commerce, (1893, 1902) and one of the organizers of the New York State Bankers’ Association and president, (1894-99). In 1895, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fourth and Fifty-fifth Congresses, serving until 1899. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed banking and other business activities, until his death at age 82.
