Father: James Kenellum Murphy Jr b: about 1810 in Marion County, Kentucky, died circa 1863.

Mother: Katherine Arena Bowles b: about 1813, died circa 1885

Served in the Civil War. He was a POW at the notorious Richmond Libby Prison, having been captured at battle of Courtland Bridge, Alabama. He was later exchanged and went back to his old unit, 10th Ky Infantry.
