Mattie was born in 1879, in Williamsburg, the daughter of William and Susan (Mosley) Bartley. Mattie was the widow of W.R. Herring. She was a housewife.
Arrangements were under the direction of William Dunn and burial was in Maple Park Cemetary.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in Springfield, Missouri for Mrs. Mattie C. Herring, former Callawegian, who died there Tuesday. Burial was in Maple Park cemetary.
Mrs. Herring was the widow of William R. Herring, who died December 1943.
Mr. and Mrs. Herring formally lived on a farm between Guthrie and Carrington, leaving Callaway in 1926 to move to Jefferson City. Later they moved to Springfield where they operated a greenhouse and truck farm.
J.W. Smart of New Bloomfield, a nephew, and Mrs. Walter Branstetter of Fulton, a niece of Mrs. Herring went to Springfield to attend the funeral services.
Others who survive include a sister, Mrs. Narra Smart of New Bloomfield, a half-sister, Mrs. Howard Tate of Mineola and a half-brother, Joe Bartley of Mineola. Also surviving is a step-son, Willie D. Herring.
