He died in Community Hospital, Sweet Springs, Mo., from injuries sustained in a two-car head on collision the night before on Highway 40 six miles west of Sweet Springs. Four young people in one car from the St. Louis area and two young people who were local all suffered fatal injuries. Highway 40 was two lane and its replacement, four lane Interstate 70, was under construction.
