US Congressman. Born in New Boston, New Hampshire, he moved to Montgomery County, New York, graduated from Union College in 1841, studied law, was admitted to the bar and proceeded to practice law in Amsterdam, New York. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1844 and a trustee of Union College, (1853-67). In 1857, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth and Thirty-sixth Congresses, serving until 1861. After his term, he resumed the practice of law, was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1864 and again a member of the New York State Assembly in 1866. He died at age 51 in Albany, New York.
