North Dakota Governor. Educated at Northwestern Business College, he was successful in farming and was as one of the founders of the Nonpartisan League. He was a member of the North Dakota House of Representatives (1915-23) and was elected as a Republican the 14th Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota, serving 1925-28. With the death of Governor Arthur Sorlie, Maddock assumed the duties as the 15th North Dakota Governor, serving 1928-29. Unsuccessful in a bid for reelection, he returned to farming, was an administrative officer of the regional Agricultural Adjustment Administration and served as head of North Dakota's Farm Security Administration office (1937-50).
