Duane Roger Winans, 71, of Hartford passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010, at home.
Duane was born Oct. 20, 1938, in Watervliet, the son of Fred and Loretta (Parshall) Winans, both of whom preceded him in passing. Also preceding Duane in death was a sister, Karen Winans, and a brother, Lawrence Winans.
Duane was a 1957 graduate of Watervliet High School. He was united in marriage to Peggy Bunn on Nov. 17, 1959, and for the next 50 years they enjoyed each other's company. He was a truck driver by trade and retired from U.S.F. Holland Corporation. His brightest joy was spending time with all of his grandkids and great-grandkids. He loved working in the yard – as a matter of fact it could be anyone's yard – and during the winter you'd often find him snow blowing the driveway.
Duane is survived by his wife, Peggy, and his four children, Roger Winans of Jacksonville, Fla.,Tamara (Dustin) Sirrine of Paw Paw, Charles (Rhonda) Winans of El Reno, Okla., and James (Lisa) Winans of Hartford. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Fred (Barbara) Winans, Don (Mattie) Winans, both of Alabama, and Gene Winans of Watervliet; two sisters, Phyllis Kling and Darlene (Don) Horton, both of Hartford; and a special sister-in-law, Gloria Winans of Hartford.
The family will welcome friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford. The service to honor Duane's memory will commence at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, at the funeral home. Pastor Robert J. Linstrom of the Peace Lutheran Church of South Haven will officiate. Duane will be laid to rest in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Michigan Cancer Center in Kalamazoo.
