Thelma was born June 21, 1927, in Pocahontas, Ark., to Albert and Edna (Lambert) Nettles, both of whom preceded her in passing. Also preceding her was her husband, Otha, on Feb. 16, 1985; her stepmother, Gladys Nettles; a brother, Louis Nettles; and two sisters, Rita Fay Sitzer and Carolyn Kay Nettles.
Thelma retired from Burnett Foods of Keeler after 25 years of loyal employment. She also worked and was a member of the Van Buren Sportsman's Club Auxiliary. Thelma was a people person and enjoyed cooking for all of her neighbors.
Thelma loved her family which consists of her son, Charles (Carole) Bennett of Constantine; her daughter, Bonnie Hanna of Greer, S.C.; a grandson, John Bennett and a granddaughter, Dana Bennett, both of Missouri. She is also survived by four sisters, Violet Wilson and Dorothey Utley, both of Jonesboro, Ark., Doris Bibb of St. Louis, Mo., and Reba Haynes of Truman, Ark.; and two brothers, Dale Nettles of Olympia, Wash., and Wayne Nettles of Dallas.
The family will welcome friends from 12 to 2 p.m. July 23 at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, where at 2 p.m. the service to honor Thelma's memory will commence. Pastor Timothy Nyhuis of the Hartford Federated Church will officiate. Thelma will be laid to rest in Reames and Norton Cemetery, Cassopolis. The family has asked that memorial donations in Thelma's name be made to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) research.
