Josephine Angeline Griffith, 63, of Hartford passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at Lakeland Specialty Hospital, Berrien Center.

Josie, as she was known by most everyone, was born Sept. 25, 1946, in Watervliet, the daughter of Joseph and Alvina (Alexis) Morsaw, both of whom preceded her in passing. Also preceding Josie was a sister, Betty Castanon, and a brother, Cardinal Joseph Morsaw.

Josie was a proud member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians.

She was a teacher's aid for the Hartford School system, worked for Sill Farms in Lawrence and loved to cook, knit and go shopping. As her health deteriorated, Josie went to live at Lakeland Specialty Hospital. She was very active in all their activities and held numerous positions such as president, vice president and so on with the long-term care facility.

Josie leaves behind her son, Tony (Telisa) Griffith of Hartford; her daughter, Jerri Lynn Griffith of Eau Claire; her grandchildren, Cheryl, Tony Jr., Jake and Alexis; a sister, Evelyn Miller and a brother, Arthur (Cathy) Morsaw, both of Hartford; a sister-in-law, Donna Morsaw; Josie's companion of many years, George Mahar; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

The family will welcome friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, where at 7:30 p.m. a Rosary will be prayed. The Mass of Christian Burial to honor Josie's memory will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Hartford. Father Bill Jacobs Jr. of the St. John and Bernard Parish will be the celebrant. Josie will be laid to rest at Rush Lake Indian Cemetery, Hartford.
