Walter C. Elder, 57, of 33 Payne Street, Clarion, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday in Clarion Osteopathic Hospital. He was born in West Virginia, on June 23, 1901, a son of Ida Hunt Elder and John W. Elder. Mr. Elder, who was married on April 9, 1920, to Pearl Edith Confer, was stationary engineer for Clarion Water Company. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Clarion. In addition to his widow, he is survived by four sons, Donald C. and Leonard W. Elder, both of Clarion, Richard W. Elder, of Turkey City, and Charles L. Elder, of the U.S. Army; four daughters, Mrs. Lillie E. Stovall. of Palp Alto, California, Miss Dorothy A. Elder, of Chicago, Illinois, Miss Carolyn Elder, of Washington, D.C, and Mrs. Ruth M. Erickson, of Dayton, Ohio. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Clair VanZant, of Oil City, and Mrs. Melvin Hunsburger, of New York State; two brothers, Merle Elder, of Knox, and Sam Elder, of New York State. The body is at Goble Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held from Grace Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Monday. Pastor James McMormick, will officiate. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery.
