Luther Raymond "Ray" Brister -

A retired research technician with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2006, at Ochsner Medical Center of Baton Rouge.

He was 79 years of age and a native of Brookhaven, Miss. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday, May 7, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until religious service in the chapel at 11:30 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Jerry Purtell. Interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery with military honors.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Hebert Brister; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and James Scott, Janice and Tim Hansen, and Ruth and Bruce Campo; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Raymond Brister, and Voyie and Naomi Brister; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Dorothy Brister and Teddy and Jane Brister; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Martin Brister and Jewell Minton Brister; sister, Jean Gaines; and brother, C. Dean Brister.
