US Congressman. He enlisted in the Union Army upon the outbreak of the Civil War, and was mustered in as a Private in Company A, 4th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry on May 22, 1861. Promoted to Corporal, he was honorably mustered out on August 23, 1862 at Camp Hooker, Lakeville, Massachusetts. He was elected as a Republican to first represent Massachusetts' 2nd Congressional District, then it's 12th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1889 to 1897.
