U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, in 1859, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law at Dedham, Massachusetts. He was a trial justice, (1867-85), a member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives in 1873, served in the Massachusetts State Senate, (1878-79) and member of the school committee of Dedham, (1882-85). In 1885, he elected as a Republican to the Forty-ninth Congress, serving until 1887. After his term, he resumed the practice of law and served as justice on the municipal court of Boston, (1888-1914).
