Idaho Governor. He served as Governor of Idaho from 1915 to 1919. When he was elected in 1914, he became the first Jewish governor in the United States. He went on to earn a reputation for wit, eloquence, and progressiveness. He was elected Governor of Idaho twice, and also elected Mayor of Boise, Idaho twice. As governor, he started the state highway system, workers' compensation and the State Insurance Commission. He led the way for statewide prohibition in 1916.
