Eula Berniece (Evans) Parker died February 19, 2007 in Stillwater, Okla. at the age of 86. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Stillwater with Dr. Tim Walker and Pastor Don McLaughlin officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Eula Berniece (Evans) Parker was born September 27, 1920 to Chester Arthur and Eula Mae (Ellis) Evans near Bearden, Calvin Co., Ark. In 1929 the family moved to the Last Cane community near Manila, Ark., Mississippi Co. She graduated from Manila High School in 1938. She then enrolled in the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1943, majoring in Vocational Home Economics. After graduation, she accepted a position as Home Economics teacher at Green County Consolidated School near Paragould, Ark., where she taught for 1 1/2 years.

Wanting to help with the war effort, she and a cousin went to Richmond, Calif., to work in a shipyard building Liberty Ships. There she met her future husband. In the meantime, she and a sister bought a house in Berkeley, Calif., where they lived for the duration of their stay in California.

Berniece married Ray Parker on June 28, 1945, at her parent's home near Manila, Ark.

As World War II was ending and the shipyard was closing, they decided to come to Stillwater in August of 1946, so Ray could complete work on his Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy at Oklahoma A & M College. Upon his graduation in 1947, they moved to Billings, Okla., where Berniece was employed as the high school Home Economics teacher. After four years in Billings, they moved to Enid, Okla., where she taught third grade at Adams Elementary School for four years.

In 1957, the couple moved to Stillwater where she was employed by Stillwater Public Schools. After teaching at several levels, she was asked to teach science at Stillwater Middle School. In this capacity, she developed a course in Earth Science, which she taught for the remainder of her teaching career, which ended in 1982. Berniece served on several state committees which sought to improve the level of teaching in middle schools. She was selected Teacher of the Year in 1979. An avid "rock hound", she gathered a rather large collection of fossils and rose rocks.

Berniece accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior while a student at University of Arkansas, and was a 50-year member of First Baptist Church, Stillwater. She taught the Esther Sunday School Class (a class of ladies) for some 40 years. She loved her Lord, family, church, and teaching. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and freezing the produce. But she really enjoyed her flowers, especially the lilies, irises, and tulips.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Ray A. Parker of Stillwater, Okla.; one daughter, Caryl Kay Parker Stough and her husband, Dan of Tempe, Ariz.; one son, David Parker and his friend, Tanya Gibson of Ponca City, Okla.; two grandsons, Graham Parker and his wife, Shelley of Broken Arrow, Okla. and Jacob Parker of Norman, Okla.

Memorials may be made in her name to Judith Karman Hospice, P. O. Box 818, Stillwater, OK 74076; the American Parkinson's Disease Association, 60 Bay Street #401, Staten Island, NY 10301; or the First Baptist Church, 701 S Duncan St., Stillwater, OK 74074.
