Salina Dena Hantelmann, daughter of Daniel Frederick and Margaret Wehrspann Hantelmann, was born In Palo Alto County of rural Fenton on April 9, 1908. She attended country school and graduated from Fenton High School. Salina attended the University of Dubuque and graduated Iowa State Teacher's College (now the University of Northern Iowa) at Cedar Falls. She taught in the Clarksville, Cedar Falls and Waterloo school district.
For 26 years, Salina taught the children of United States military personnel overseas, arriving in 1947 with the first group of teachers in Frankfurt, Germany and later went to Nouasseur Air Base in Morocco; at Aviano, Italy; Izmir, Turkey and Madrid, Spain. She retired in 1973 to Cedar Falls and in 1976 moved to the Lutheran Home Apartments. She became a resident of the Lutheran Home in 1992.
Salina Hantelmann died there Monday, Nov. 4 (1996), at the age of 88. Her body was donated to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.
Salina was preceded in death by four sisters; Edna Hantelmann, Luclnda Dieter, Margaret Hammarand and Marie Hantelmann; three brothers; Leland, Robert and Norman Hantelmann in Infancy; and half-sister, Emma Botkln and half-brother, Louis Hantelmann.
