Mr. Hantelmann was born January 27, 1859, near Dubuque, Iowa. His parents were pioneers in Iowa, coming to America in the early fifties of the last century. They settled in the scenic country surrounding the present city of Dubuque and it was here their son, Daniel, was born and grew to manhood.
After the death of his first wife whom he married in 1883, Mr. Hantelmann entered a second marriage with Margaretha Wehrspann in 1901. Nine children were born to them, two of whom preceded their father in death.
In 1902, Mr. and Mr. Hantelmann came to Palo Alto county where they purchased a tract of land. They made their home there until 1919 when they moved to Fenton with their family. The Hantelmanns returned to their farm in 1933.
