Samuel Louis "Sam" Becker married Margaret McLean Patock in 1966, and assisted her in the task of finishing raising her 4 sons. They met in Waukegan, Illinois where Sam was stationed at the time. Sam also served in the Army for a short time prior to joining the Navy. (He says he did not attend Naval Boot Camp, since he had been through boot camp in the Army) He loved to tell the story of how he was assigned to painting a gun barrel on the first ship he was assigned to. One Officer directed him to run the paint lengthwise along the gun barrel, then about 15 minutes later, another officer comes by and kicks him in the ass and directs him to paint around the gun barrel. 15 minutes later the first officer came by and kicked him in the ass for not following directions. Sam jumped up and requested loudly they figure out HOW they wanted the gun barrel painted and QUIT kicking him in the ass. He said he walked off and had a cigar while he was waiting. He enjoyed his time in the Navy, and he retired from "The Ranger" in 1970. Sam also enjoyed a good cigar and a cold beer. He never had any biological children and was tickled as hell when a Great Granddaughter was named "Samantha" after him.
