The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 11, 2011 at New Jersey AME Zion Church at 11:00 am with family visitation an hour before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The public viewing will be from 1:00pm until 8:00pm Friday at Roberts Funeral Service.
Lula Mae was born May 9, 1921 in Davidson County to William Henry Hogan and Lillie Thelma Cross Hogan. She retired from PPG Industries. Mother Bell was a life member of New Jersey AME Zion Church where she served faithfully as a Deaconess, Missionary, a class leader, a member of the senior choir, Sunday school adult class, captain of friends and family day and Mother of the church. She was a member of the Southside Senior Citizens and Order of the Golden Circle # 325.
Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marshall Bell; a son, Roger Bell; three grandchildren, Katrina Bell, Kelvin Bell and Khalita Jones.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory two sons, Aggrester (Gladys) Bell of Woodleaf, NC and Harold E. Bell of Washington, DC; five daughters, Shirley Bynoe, Juliana Ballard both of Newark, Delaware, Dr. Josephine Jones, Linda (Dwight) Talbert both of Lexington and Dr. Cynthia (Arthur) Bell-Childs of Washington, DC; a sister, Joanna H. Cuthberson of East Spencer, NC; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren; six sisters-in-law, Mary Bell Thomas, Stella Mae Murphy, Margie Spinks, Essie Waddell, Letha Trogton and Lena Craven and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Jersey A.M.E. Zion Church for Family and Friends Day, P.O. Box 1404, Lexington, N.C. 27292.
