Son of Ludwig and Dorthee (Bartölke) Geldmacher. He was born in the village of Schlewecke (now part of of the municipality of Bockenem) in what was then the Duchy of Brunswick. Married to Johanne Sophie Caroline Charlotte Patz on 26 Oct 1834 in the nearby village of Holle in what was then the Kingdom of Hanover. She passed away on 18 Sep 1866 in Schlewecke. He arrived in New York on 21 May 1868 aboard the Saxonia from Hamburg, Germany, accompanied by his youngest son, youngest daughter, daughter-in-law, & grandson.

NOTE; Historical information for Geldmacher and Bleckwendt Families were documented in a book entitled "Heinrich Sander, Sr. (1819-1883 and Related Families-Cape Girardeau County, Missouri" The book was compiled by Hazel Rennolds Sanders and a copy was donated to the Cape Girardeau Public Library in 1978.
