Thought his tombstone states that he was in the 15th U. S. Infantry, unable to verify this

He enlisted in the 7th U. S. Cavalry into their band on 3 March 1875. He no doubt was at Fort Abraham Lincoln at the time of the Battle of the Little Big Horn. The 7th would have not needed their band for their march into hostile country, as records indicate he was not with the column but on detached service, which may very well have saved his life.
