Edwin Marion Whiting, 56, returned home to his Father in Heaven June 25, 2011. He was born May 6, 1955, to Virgil and Lavelle Whiting in St. Johns the fourth of five children: Pam Benson, Claudia Lowell, Ken Whiting and Joy Lynn Whiting. He was born happy with a loving heart and was kind to anyone he met.

He married the love of his life, Nanette Stradling Whiting, Nov. 12, 1976. They chose to live and raise their five children in the town they loved: St. Johns. More than anything, Ed lived for family. He worked for his family; he played with his family and spent time with his family. He made sure his children knew that family came first. His strong testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helped him to know that families are eternal and are the most important relationship in life.

Ed was a natural people-person and beyond his family he loved his neighbors, his friends, and his co-workers. He was known as the life of the party and the one who always made everyone laugh. He worked for Salt River Project for 30-plus years, where he enjoyed the friendship of many.

He was preceded in death by his sweetheart, Nanette Whiting, father Virgil Whiting, sister Pam Benson, and little sister Joy Lynn Whiting.

Ed is survived by his mother and stepfather Lavelle and Mel Despain; brother and sister, Claudia Lowell and Ken Whiting; his five children and their spouses: Jason and Shanda Whiting, Jaymi and Dallas Davis, Julie and Butch Nielsen, Cord and Brittany Whiting, and Tyson Whiting; and nine grandchildren whom he adored.

The public viewing will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at Burnham Mortuary in St. Johns. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 1, at the St. Johns Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the funeral service at the St. Johns Westside Cemetery.
