Robert Franklin “Bobby” Glass

Bobby Glass was born in Lavonia, Ga. but later moved to Oconee County, S.C. where he married and raised a family.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in Sept.,1942 and received basic training at Ft. Jackson, S.C. A Corporal in the 37th. Field Artillery Btn., 2nd. Inf. Division, he participated in the D-Day landing on Omaha Beach, June 6, 1944. In Sept. 1944, he was severely wounded near Brest, France and soon was returned to the U.S. Shrapnel was removed from his face and he wore a glass eye the rest of his life. He was highly decorated, receiving the American Theatre Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Purple Heart, and World War Two Victory Medal.
In later life, he was the maintenance supervisor of West Oak High School where he retired in 1987. He was a member of Return Baptist Church.
