He was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Grand Prairie, to William James Minick and Lula Vashti Reynolds-Minick of Honey Grove, one of two children.
He counted it one of life's greatest blessings to have served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Encouraging others to give whatever they can in service, he wrote, "Our God has opened the windows of heaven upon us and we must be faithful to his commission to be a righteous nation."
He felt fortunate to have had two successful careers, a faithful and loving wife and five children. He was an evangelist who preached for 37 years in Cameron, Sanger, El Paso, Arlington, Snyder and Eau Claire, Wis., and later served as a Bible School teacher for nearly 20 years and an elder for five at Richland Hills Church of Christ. He had a successful insurance and financial planning practice for more than 30 years. One of his greatest joys as an adult was playing tennis and he was forever grateful for his "tennis buddies" and the hours they shared.
In one of his last letters, he wrote, "How could I be so blessed as to have five beautiful children, and their families, with so many years of good health and happiness! What happy times we will have in heaven!"
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Lynn Johnson-Minick; and five children, Deborah Hoffman, of Abilene, Diane Jones, of Boulder, Colo., Dana Proffer, of North Richland Hills, Bill Minick, III, of Dallas and DeeDee Wiese, of Livermore, Calif. He is also survived and remembered by 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
