Maude Asay was born in Cowley, Wyoming. Her father Leon Dutton Asay, died when she was just 2 years old. When she was 4 years old, her mother Mary Hilda Banks Asay, married Arlie A. Delano. She moved to Frannie, Wyoming on his farm along with all her other brothers and sisters (8 children) She attended and graduated from the Deaver Frannie School System. On Dec. 16th, 1955, she married H. Franklin Burkhart. They were the parents of three boys, Jayme, L. Wade and Steven. In 1972, while returning from a visit to her brother in Billings, Montana, they were hit head on by a drunk driver. Frank was severly injured, but recoved. The boys had verious injuries, including broken bones. Maude died at the hospital in Billings a few hours later of sever head injuries, leaving her boys Jayme,15; Wade,13; and Steven, 11.
