A memorial service for Charles R. "Chuck" Haworth, 87, of Tyler was Friday, July 1, 2011, at Emerald Bay Community Church. Private burial preceded the service in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Haworth passed away on June 29, 2011, at his residence in Tyler.

He was born Dec. 30, 1923, to Lora Belle and J. Frank Haworth in Georgetown, a small coal mining and farming community in far-east central Illinois. He was a birthright Quaker and a former member of the Friends Society in Georgetown. He later became a member of the Presbyterian Church.

On Dec. 24, 1947, Chuck was married to Shirley Sands of Champaign, Ill., who survives him. To this union were born two sons, Charles Richard of Galveston, John Sands of The Woodlands, who survive him, and a daughter, Holly, who preceded Chuck in death in 1982.

He was discharged from the Army in November 1944.

Memorials honoring Chuck may be made to the Hospice of East Texas Foundation, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, 75701.
