US Congressman. He graduated from Bates College in 1914, became the principal of the Canton High School and held this position until 1918. He served as clerk of the supreme judicial court for Oxford County, (1919-31). He then studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1924 and began practicing law in Norway, Maine. He served as Norway town clerk (1924-31) and a member of Norway's board of education, (1926-31). In 1931, he was elected as a Republican to the 72nd Congress, serving until 1933. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he returned to the practice of law in Norway, Maine, after his term ended. He died suddenly while on a business trip at age 54.
