Judah Dana

U.S. Senator. He graduated from Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, in 1795, studied law, admitted to the bar in 1798 and opened a law practice in Fryeburg, Maine. He was prosecuting attorney of Oxford County, (1805-11), judge of probate (1811-22), judge of the court of common pleas and also a circuit judge, (1811-23). He was a delegate to the Maine State constitutional convention in 1819, which a committee appointed him to draw up a constitution for Maine and was a member of the Maine Executive Council, in 1834. In 1836, he was appointed as a Jacksonian to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Ether Shepley, serving until 1837. He then retired from public service and practiced law until his death at age 73.
