Gordon was a 1945 graduate of Marmion Military Academy. Following graduation, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy in the Sea Bees as a sheet metal worker. He later went on to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering. On January 26, 1952 he was united in marriage to Darlene (Dhuse) in Aurora, IL.
He was the owner of Strong Warm Air and Heating in North Aurora for over 30 years until his retirement. He then went to Gordon, WI where he and his wife owned and operated the Strongs Resort and Campgroud for the next 15 years. He then retired and moved back to Oswego to be closer to his children.
He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus #736, the American Legion Post #675 in Oswego, the Aurora Moose Lodge #400 and a member of the Aurora Turner Club. Gordon was an avid fisherman and hunter. He belonged to a flying club and loved to fly smaller planes.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Darlene; two sons, Thomas (Debbie) Strong and John (Laura) Strong, all of North Aurora; two daughters, JoDene Strong of Farmington, MN and Mary (Grant) Hinton of Sterling, IL; seven grandchildren, Brian, Christina, Joseph, Jacob, and Abigail Strong, all of North Aurora, IL and Patrick and Jeffery Hinton of Sterling, IL; his sister, JoAnn (Anthony) Feiden; a brother-in-law, Harold Dhuse of Plainfield, IL; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, four aunts and one uncle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, John Edward Strong, Jr. and his sister-in-law, Arlene Dhuse.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 25, 2003 at St. Anne Church at 10 a.m. Fr. Joseph Kulak will officiate with interment at Marywood Cemetery.
