VIRGINIA BEACH - Ruth A. Olbris, 78, went to be with her Lord Friday, April 1, 2011 at her home surrounded by family. Ruth, a Lumbee Indian from Lumberton, N.C., was born Jan. 1, 1933. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Selma Lowery. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Joe Olbris. She was supported by a loving daughter, Johanna Jones and her son, Joseph; a son, Dwayne and his wife Sarah and their children AJ, Jessie, Hannah and Mary Ruth; a sister, Jeannette Hardin and her husband John and their son GL and his wife Debbie; a brother, Wendell Lowery and his wife Gloria and their children Chevron and Wendy. Ruth was Mamma and Nanny to many. Ruth lived her life faithfully serving her Lord and others. Ruth and Joe started their food service ministry at Triple R Ranch and continued their ministry at First Baptist Church of Norfolk for more than 20 years. During their time in service, they facilitated food service departments for many churches and served on the Board of Directors for many Christian organizations, with her passion being Outreach for Christ. A celebration of life service will be held at noon Saturday, April 9, at First Baptist Church of Norfolk, 312 Kempsville Road, Norfolk. She will be laid to rest at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. At Ruth's request memorial contributions should be made to Outreach for Christ, P.O. Box 4326, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. Graham Funeral Home will be caring for arrangements.
