Paul H. Runnels, 84, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, in his home. Paul was born on September 7, 1922 in LaPorte, IN, to Paul P. and Lillian (Rodgers) Runnels.

He had a career in the roofing business for 60 years, working for South Bend Roofing for 35 years, and then with Gary Leslie-Central Roofing and Siding for 25 years.

On October 29, 1949, in Olive Chapel Church, he married Eldonna F. Clark, who survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Gaynel Klimek of Republic, OH; one granddaughter, Nicole (Joshua) Roberts of New Carlisle, IN; one sister, Edna (Paul) VanDusen of New Carlisle, IN; one sister-in-law, Helen Runnels of New Carlisle, IN; and one niece, Mary Ann Holston of New Carlisle, IN. Preceding him in death were two sisters, Louisa Nickerson and Mary Eleanor Shankland; and four brothers, James, Joseph, Harold, and Charles Runnels.

A Memorial Service will be held Noon, E.D.T., Friday, September 7, 2007, in Olive Chapel Church, where friends may call from 1 hour prior to services.

Paul was a 1940 graduate of New Carlisle High School. He was a W.W. II Army Veteran, where he held the rank of T4 Seargant. He was awarded five battle stars. Paul was a member of Olive Chapel Church, American Legion Post #297, and the V.F.W. Post # 9423 Rolling Prairie, IN. Paul enjoyed bowling and was a huge sports fan. He was an avid fisherman. He was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed the life of a farmer. Paul loved his animals, especially his dog Rusty, who is now gone.
