CARL TRAVIS ARCHER, 97, of Friendswood, Texas passed away on June 25, 2011 in Friendswood, Texas. Travis was born on August 15, 1913 in Freestone County, Texas to a close family of eight siblings. His parents were Saladine Taylor Archer and Mary Frances (Yarbrough) Archer. He and Vergie Chandler were married April 12, 1936, while seated in Travis' Ford Model A Coupe. Travis built Liberty ships for the World War II war effort and subsequently retired after a long career at Shell Oil Refinery. They retired to Mexia where they enjoyed keeping a large garden for many years. At 90 years of age, Tavis and Vergie retired a second time to Friendswood to be near their children. Travis enjoyed a life-long love of music; playing piano, fiddle and guitar which he continued in Friendswood up until two weeks before his passing. Travis and Vergie have been active life long members of the Church of Christ. The legacy of Travis and Vergie's over 75 year marriage will continue for future generations.

He is survived by his loving wife, Vergie Lee Archer of Friendswood, Texas; children, Gerald Travis Archer and wife Marie of Friendswood, Texas and Janie Crim and husband Steve of Friendswood, Texas; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Ercil Barnhart; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. prior to the funeral service which will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas 77546 with Mike Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Grand View Cemetery in Pasadena, Texas.
