James "Jim" C. Simmons, 63, Onawa, Iowa, passed away Friday, June 24,
2011 at Burgess Health Center at Onawa.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Rush Family
Chapel at Onawa, Iowa. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation
will be Thursday, noon until service time.
James was born September 5, 1947 at Onawa, Iowa, the son of William
"Sticks" and Eileen "Susie" (Orr) Simmons. He was raised in the Onawa
area and graduated from Onawa High School. He attended Western Iowa Tech
Community College at Sioux City and studied architecture. January 9,
1971 he and Sharon Kreger were united in marriage at First Christian
Church at Onawa. They were later divorced.
Jim was a truck driver and also a former poker room manager in casinos
until health problems forced his retirement.
He was affiliated with First Christian Church at Onawa. He enjoyed
fishing, computers and poker.
Survivors include his daughter, Stacie Simmons of Onawa; a granddaughter,
Risa Lynn Simmons of Omaha, NE; four siblings, Johnie (Vanessa) Simmons
of Onawa, Ron (Karen) Simmons of Onawa, Tim Simmons of Cheyenne, WY and
Susan (Robert) DeRoy of Omaha; seven nieces and nephews, Gabe
"Ghostrider", Brandi, Will, Kate and Mary Simmons and Sean and Erin Wingfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Candon and Dakota
Trundle and numerous special friends.
