A son of Aaron and Sarah (Naugle) Barton. He was united in marriage with Cora L. Swartz who preceded him in death. His wife and son, Frank, died in the automobile accident they had on Cresson mountain on March 17, 1928.

He was survived by 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Four children preceded him in death. He worked in the coal mines for 40 years.
