Thomas Osborn, Jr. enlisted in Co. B, 145th Pennsylvania volunteer infantry two months before his eighteenth birthday. He was severely wounded twice during the war, and was mustered out as a corporal. In 1865 and 1866 he attended school at Edinboro Normal School and then taught for three terms. After his marriage in 1871 he moved to Wellsburg where he was principal for one term. He then became engaged in the mercantile business in which he remained until his death. He was postmaster from 1872-1884, and served two terms in the Pennsylvania Legislature, 1884-1886.
