Gene E. Hefner, 72, Topeka, died Thursday, June 20, 1991 at his home.

Mr. Hefner was a business manager and secretary/treasurer for Drs. Bowen and Bowen when he retired in 1965. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was born Dec. 10, 1918 in St. Marys, the son of John A. and Elizabeth Eichman Hefner.

Mr. Hefner was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Oden Town Optimist Club, and Shawnee Country Club, former secretary of Kansas Assoc. of Clinic Managers Assoc., associate member of St. Vincent de Paul Society and a former director of Topeka Credit Bureau.

He was married to Reeselynn Suffell on Sept. 21, 1940. She survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Lisa A. Heitz and Marta L. Senne, both of Topeka, and Gina L. Sanders, Derby; a son, Timothy A. Hefner, Topeka; three sisters Mary E. Brennan, Dorothy Hefner, and Margaret L. Addington, all of Topeka; a brother, William Hefner, Salem, Ore.; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Hefner will lie in state from 2 until 9 p.m. today at Brennan Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chapel Fund at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, 1700 W. 7th, 66606.
