The deceased was one of the well known pioneer residents of Cape Girardeau. He was born on Christmas Day, 1846, in Wierstedt, Hanover, Germany, and came to America with an uncle when 12 years old. When a young man he settled in Cape Girardeau, and for more than 40 years operated a blacksmith shop on Broadway, near Frederick Street. Fifteen years ago he retired from active work and had been making his home with his three daughters here until a year ago, when he entered the Old Solders Home in Danville, IL. He served with a local company in the Civil War but saw no active engagements. His wife died more than 20 years ago. He is survived by three daughter, Mrs. Nunn, Mrs. Henry Sander, 824 Themis, and Mrs. John Inman, Red Star. He also leaves seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Brinknopf Funeral Home, Broadway and Frederick Street. The body will lie in state there until the services. Rev. Reinhart Lehman, pastor of Christ Evangelical Church, will have charge of services and interment will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
