SPENCER P. ELLIS

Spencer P. Ellis, age 69, of Fort Collins, Colo., died at his home Sept. 11.

Private burial of his ashes by the family was at 10 a.m. Sept. 17 at Jackson Cemetery in Joaquin. A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. in Jackson Baptist Church for family and friends with Rev. Michael Godfrey, Rev. Harold Hanson and Rev. Steve Ellis officiating.

Mr. Ellis was the son of the late N.P. and Audrey Ellis of Joaquin.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Shulter-Ellis of Fort Collins, Colorado.; two brothers, Renford C. Ellis of Homer, La., and Joe L. Ellis of Center; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ellis served as director of forests and parks for the state of Maryland at Annapolis from 1964–1971. He then became the assistant secretary of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources until his retirement in 1983. Flags flew at half mast over all government buildings on the day of his services at the request of the governor of the state of Maryland.
