Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served during the Civil War as a Sergeant in Company A, 1st Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on April 5, 1865 at Paine's Crossroads, Virginia. His citation reads simply "Capture of flag".
