Services were held on June 27, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Benson, Ariz. for Valdemar P. Smith, 80, of Benson, Ariz.

Valdemar passed away on June 22, 2011 at Benson Hospital.

Valdemar was born in Pirtleville, Ariz. on May 28, 1931 and served in the Korean War with the 11th Airborne Division and received a Purple Heart.

Valdemar has resided in Benson, Ariz. for the past 50 years, and was retired from Apache Powder Plant and the City of Benson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Elena Smith, and is survived by his three children, Leticia of Livonia, Mich., Valdemar of Canton, Mich., and Edward of Benson. Valdemar had four grandchildren, Daniel, Christian, Bianca and Connor. He had four surviving brothers and two sisters.

Valdemar was laid to rest at the Cochise Gardens in Benson, with Daniel Smith, Christian Ramirez, Edward Smith, Freddie Smith, Mark Bettinger, and Patrick Bettinger serving as casket bearers."
