Disinguished Banker and Business Man. President of the First National Bank who died at his home on West Franklin Street.

Newton was the son of Cincinnatus W. and Martha Tucker Newton. He married Mary Heath Davenport, a daughter of Isaac Davenport of Richmond. His second wife was a Mary Barksdale.

He was educated at the University of Virginia from which he graduated with the degree of bachelor of laws. He enlisted at the age of eighteen and served through the war as a midshipman in the Confederate Navy; and was on the Virginia during the memorable fight in Hampton Roads.
