Quintus A. Guthrie, 89, of Sioux City formerly of Milford, Iowa died Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at Westwood Nursing and Rehab. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2006 from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
A funeral service will then be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday also at the funeral home with Reverend Alex T. Washington officiating. Visitation will resume after the service until 3:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow on Monday at Cedar Memorial in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Bub was born on March 14, 1917, to Arthur T. and Valda (Christofferson) Guthrie in Milford, Iowa. He grew up and attended school in Milford. After his schooling Bub went to work with his father on the family farm. Bub and his brother Glen also own and operated the Guthrie Gravel Pit in Milford.
On November 13, 1937 Bub married Helen Ethel Wiggins. To this union 5 children where born. The couple was divorced in the late 1970s. He became self-employed as a heavy equipment operator working on roads. Bub moved to Sioux City in the early 1990s due to failing health from lung cancer.
Bub is survived by 4 children: John T. Guthrie and wife Sandy of Oquawka, IL: Richard Guthrie and wife Judy of Phoenix, AZ: Nick Guthrie and wife Loretta of Sioux City, IA: and Venita Louise Millis and her husband Peter of Cedar Rapids, IA: many grand- children and great grandchildren; 6 brothers and sisters, Ella Nielsen of Spencer, IA, Florence Mize of Carmello, CA, Marcelle Franker of Anthon, IA, Jim Guthrie of Spencer, IA, Lincoln Guthrie of Milford, IA, and Milton Guthrie of Milford, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Arthur T. Guthrie Sr., and 7 brothers and sisters; Mae Adams, Dena Bueno, John Guthrie, Louise Martin, Glen Guthrie, Amerett Bauer and Len Hammer.
