Geraldine Curtis Batchelor Raley, age 80, passed away in Double Springs on Sunday, June 26 from complications of a stroke. She was a lifelong resident of Double Springs. She is survived by her husband, Ted Raley, four children, and one brother, Eldon Curtis and wife, Lorene, of Double Springs.

Mrs. Raley was blessed with two wonderful husbands, JC Batchelor and Ted Raley. She and JC Batchelor, who passed away in 1982, had three children; Sonya Odell and husband, Stan, of Dallas, TX and daughter, Courtney Beth Odell, who is a graduate of Texas State University and is an artist in Austin, TX, and step-daughter, Tami Delmark and husband, Cary, and their daughter, Jordan, of Dallas, TX; Sandra Kee and husband, Ron, of Waverly, TN and step-sons, Charles Warner, Ill, and granddaughter, Julia Warner, and Kris Kee and wife, Abby, of Orlando, FL; and Greg Batchelor and wife, Donna, of Double Springs and daughters, Dr. Andrea Morgan Batchelor, who is in her residency in Mobile, AL for Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, and Haley Brooke Batchelor, who is in graduate school at University of North Alabama studying school and community counseling.

She and Ted Raley married March 25, 1994 and she gained another son, Lowell Raley. Mr. and Mrs. Raley were active in the Church of Christ of Double Springs and were fortunate to have the good health to travel extensively with their family.

She was a graduate of Winston County High School and the University of Alabama at Birmingham with two advanced degrees in education.

Mrs. Raley taught 2nd grade at Double Springs Elementary for 23 years and retired in 1994. Prior to teaching, she worked at the textile plant in Haleyville followed by owning a flower and ceramic shop and a dress shop. She also worked at the Department of Pensions and Security. She had many hobbies and enjoyed her gardening, sewing, and craft work until her health prevented her from moving her hands and walking.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Milford and Rosa Lee Curtis; brothers, Clarence, Arnold, and Travis; and sisters, Effie Curtis and Jacqueline Barnett.

Visitation will be on Monday, June 27, 2011 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs. Funeral service to be at the Double Springs Church of Christ at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, she will lie in state from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, with burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Vance Hutton will officiate.
