Andrew Jackson Ashmore enlisted in Company C, 41st Infantry Regiment in 1862. He served until the end of the Civil War. He was wounded twice, the second time on March 25, 1865 at Fort Stedman. He was captured and sent to Fort Delaware from which he was discharged on June 19, 1865.
He migrated to Corsicana where he received a land grant from the Republic of Texas.
